OnTap Magazine: A Chat with Dave Ries from Kentucky Avenue

“In the end, The Ballad of The Past feels like a book of short stories set to music with Ries and Schindler weaving in and out like lead characters. You could say It’s a great read.” - Steve Wosahla

— Americana Highways

“This is a wonderful sounding record. The tunes have a timelessness that seems effortless-- voices mesh beautifully. Whoever mixed this had a wonderful sense of what you were trying to achieve; there is room for every instrument and every note. That pedal steel lays so beautifully across the tracks where it lives. Kudos to the entire team.”

— Brian R. ITG Music on "Nothing Here is Mine"

Dave Ries is an Americana singer-songwriter, guitarist, recording artist, and music producer whose career spans live performance, original songwriting, television composition, and music publishing.

Based in the Washington, DC region, Ries has spent decades performing and creating music that draws from the traditions of American roots music, classic country, folk, and rock and roll.

As a founding member of Kentucky Avenue, Ries helped establish a distinctive Americana sound that has taken the group to stages including the Kennedy Center, The Birchmere, 9:30 Club, Union Stage, and Pearl Street Warehouse.

Beyond the stage, Ries has built an extensive catalog of original recordings and compositions. His music has appeared in programming across ABC, CBS, NBC, ESPN, Discovery, National Geographic, and other major media outlets.

Previously a creative music executive at Discovery Communications, Ries brings an unusually broad perspective to his work as a performing artist, combining the instincts of a songwriter with decades of professional experience in music production and the entertainment industry.

Today, Ries performs both as a solo acoustic artist and with Kentucky Avenue. His live shows blend original compositions with thoughtfully selected covers, delivering an engaging mix of Americana, country, folk, and roots rock.

Whether performing in an intimate listening room, a lively winery, or a private gathering, Ries brings authentic songwriting, accomplished musicianship, and a genuine connection to his audience.

BOOK DAVE: Available for acoustic performances, private events, and original songwriter shows.
